The Rev. Jesse F. “Jack” Hasty Jr., passed away at age 86 on Nov. 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Home in Aiken, S.C.
Jack was born in Charlotte, N.C., on April 3, 1926, to the late Jesse F. Hasty Sr. and Nancy Long Hasty. He attended Brevard College, earned a bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University, and a Bachelor of Divinity (now Master of Divinity) at Andover Newton Theological School.
While at Andover Newton, he played on the school’s basketball team and met his future wife, Shirley Evelyn Hill. The couple married in 1952.
Jack served as a minister of education at congregations in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina. He retired in 1991 and spent the last two decades volunteering, working as a church pastoral care consultant, fishing, golfing, traveling the world with Shirley, and enjoying his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter Nancy Kierspe and her husband, George H. Kierspe, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; son Timothy Hasty and his wife, Donna Mills Hasty of Aiken, S.C.; and granddaughters Erin Hasty, Catherine Hasty, and Sarah Hasty, all of Aiken, S.C.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 o’clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14,at First Baptist Church in Aiken, S.C. Interment will be held at a later date in Charlotte, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving), 340 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC 29801. Jack volunteered for the organization after his retirement.
