Rev. William E. Beldan Jr. of Shirley, Mass., passed away Oct. 12 at age 77.
Bill was born in Newport, R.I., on May 10, 1935, to the late William and Elizabeth (Caswell) Beldan. He earned a B.A. in English literature from the University of Massachusetts (‘56) and a B.D. from the then-Newton Theological School (‘60). He was ordained in Vermont in 1960 and served United Church of Christ congregations in Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts from 1959-2000. He was also an active firefighter and chaplain to fire departments.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Brown) Beldan of Shirley; daughters Kathryn McCarraher of Franklin and Kristyn Azud of Clinton; a sister, Anne Mulhollem of Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., in Littleton, Mass. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at The Townsend Congregational Church, 3 Brookline St., in Townsend, Mass., with a private burial to be arranged.
