The Health Crisis in the U.S.: A Challenge to Our Churches - April 24
------------------------------------------------------------------
Why a Health Ministry for Your Church?
Monday, April 24
9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

With 42 million people uninsured in this country and the escalating
costs of health care insurance and co-pays, many people are
understandably concerned about staying healthy and finding economical
ways to deal with their health needs. Given that the majority of
illnesses today in this country are chronic, for which there are no
magic bullets, it is imperative to find ways to promote health and
wellbeing through self-care and the integration of spiritual resources
and practices into our lives.

Come and join Dr. Sophia Harrell, Interim Director of the
Congregational Health Ministry Program to find out how your church might
better respond to the health crisis today through a congregational
health ministry.

Presenters:

Dr. Sophia Harrell
Interim Director of Congregational Health Ministries Program, Andover
Newton Theological School

Professor Brita Gill-Austern
Austin Philip Guiles Professor of Psychology and Pastoral Care,
Director of Program in Faith, Health and Spirituality

"Getting Your Own House in Order: How and Why to Live an
Environmentally Sustainable Lifestyle"

Dan Ruben, President of the Green Decade in Newton, MA will discuss how
our lifestyle impacts the environment and our future. Special emphasis
will be devoted to global warming-how it is a threat to our economy and
well-being, and how we can reduce the greenhouse gas emissions resulting
from the way we live. Participants will learn how to improve their
impact on the environment, and which actions are not very important.
They will learn how to reduce their use of energy, water, garbage, and
toxins. Dan's presentation will also explore the role of theologians
in addressing the environmental threats that we face.

The Green Decade's programs are designed to build awareness, to provide
opportunities for public dialogue, and to educate and empower citizens
to take personal and civic action.

6:00pm - 10:00pm, with 15 minute intermission
Sturtevant Lounge

The Film and Television Fellowship of Andover-Newton invite you to a
screening of "Schindler's List" on Yom Ha'Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance

struggle of 1,000 Jewish slave workers and the efforts of German factory

film you will never forget.

for children.

Six minutes of silent prayer will follow the film.
