Chapel Construction Begins Today
Hello Everyone,

In order to expedite the construction process (primarily to get under
roof before Thanksgiving and the onset of cold weather), we decided to
break our building permit application into two parts. The first part,
for site preparation, has been approved. This means that beginning today
(Wednesday) you will start to see signs of increasing activity. This
will include fencing, some heavy equipment, a site trailer, signage, and
initial work on adding parking spaces throughout the campus (to
accommodate the spaces lost in the chapel construction area).

A couple of immediate impacts will be the coming and going of
construction workers and vehicles, and the loss of the lower parking lot
in front of Davis. Please plan to park elsewhere (behind Fuller/Kendall
or behind Davis - the road to the back of Davis will remain open
throughout the construction). Students who park on the quadrangle side
of the road in front of Kendall/Fuller will generally be allowed to
remain there, except for approximately two weeks when that road will be
widened. However it could be dusty in those areas so you may wish to
park behind Davis instead.

Also, there will be some tree removal and the loss of some lawn space.
The two memorial trees in front of Davis will be removed, but saved
elsewhere and replanted in the landscaping phase of the project. The
most obvious loss will be the large evergreen tree at the base of the
current parking lot. Some others will be trimmed to accommodate the
large cement trucks. But in all cases we have made extra efforts to
preserve the bucolic beauty of the campus.

We will be meeting with the construction managers on a regular basis and
will pass along updates through enews, so please be watching for those.
Obviously there are always unanticipated incidents with a construction
project of this size, so we ask for your patience when these things
occur. If you have any questions or concerns in this process please
don't hesitate to contact me.
