South Church in Andover celebrates Andover Newton bicentennial
------------------------
Dear Trustees, Faculty, Staff, and the entire ANTS community:

We'd be delighted if you would join us Sunday, October 21, 2007, as we

celebrate our 296th Anniversary as a congregation and the 200th
Anniversary of Andover Newton Theological School along with founding
families, Phillips Academy, and friends from the Town of Andover and
the
Andover Historical Society.

The events for the day begin with worship at South Church at 10:30am.
Andover Newton President Nick Carter will be our guest preacher. Please

arrive by 10:15 to pick up name tags (and find parking!)

After the service, please join us at Phillips Academy's Pearson Hall
at
12:30pm for an exchange of historical gifts. At 12:05, we will leave
the
South Church library (where we will have a finger food 'lunch') and
take
a walking tour up School St. to Pearson Hall. PA is hosting its
Parent's
Weekend, and parking at the campus is off limits. (For those who need
assistance, we will have a few shuttle cars.) Please bring walking
shoes!

At 1:00pm, we will walk to Missionary Rock via the Chapel Cemetery and

learn more about the missionary legacy started here in Andover. After
walking back to South Church, we will have more refreshments and food
for our guests.

Please feel free to attend any or all of the events of the day. If you

would RSVP to our South Church administrator, Linda Hacker, at
978-475-0321, or by email to _scand@southchurch.com
<mailto:scand%21@southchurch.com>_, we will have name tags for you and
a
sufficient count for 'lunch'.

Sincerely,

Charlotte Lyons
Chair, South Church Historical Committee

News from Burma
------------------------
Dear Friends,

I just heard from Burma this morning from former D.Min. Student and
Professor of Ethics at Myanmar Theological Institute, Maung,Maung Yin,
that he and our friends and D.Min. graduates, Maung Maung Hwte and Soe
Thia are all fine. Email just came back up in Myanmar, but it is still
a difficult medium to communicate much because of government's access
and monitoring of emails. Please continue to hold our Burmese
graduates, the people of Myanmar, and our present Burmese student Ai Doh
in your prayers. Brita Gill-Austern

Prayers for Burton Bagby and his partner Ron Grose
------------------------
Please pray for Burton Bagby and his partner, Ron Grose. Ron's uncle
has been in Surgical ICU at Methodist Hospital in Houston undergoing
almost daily surgeries for six weeks. He was given a week to live the
day after he was admitted and has not fully regained consciousness since
then.

The Young Clergy Women Project
------------------------
The Young Clergy Women Project focuses on researching and resourcing
the youngest ordained
women. The group has created an e-zine that is by, for and about
young clergy women. It's called Fidelia's
Sisters, and it includes articles by young women. They are hoping that
the e-zine (which will have a new article every Tuesday and every
Thursday beginning October 16) will be appealing to other young ordained
women, but also to seminarians and others. The URL is:

ANTS Writing Tutor
------------------------
Just a reminder: I'm happy to work with you on anything you might be
writing (or contemplating writing!) Come see me once, or regularly, or
join a group.

Details: I'm on campus Tuesdays 10 to 3, and alternate Thursdays 12
to 3, in Worcester 302. It's wise to make an appointment, via email,
but please feel free to drop by. And yes, we can work via email once
we've met in person.

Or, you may want to join one of the writing groups that meet on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunchtime. All ANTS students are welcome, but
please check with me before you come.

Why not get in touch soon, and get a jump on those assignments?
