Due to staff vacations there will be no new E-News postings next week.
The next new E-News posting will be on July 7th.

------------------------
NOTICE OF FUEL SURCHARGE
------------------------
Due to the ever increasing energy cost and the adverse impact these
costs have to the financial well being of Andover Newton Theological
School, we are forced to implement a fuel surcharge effective July 1,
2008.

This fuel surcharge of $15 will be assessed in the fall and again in
the spring semesters for all students. Because we know that most
students have limited resources and any surcharge is a burden, we want
you to know that this charge only represents a fraction of the increase
in our costs.

We cannot control price increases, but we can control usage. A
continuous effort on the part of the community must be undertaken to
drive energy consumption down. We are pleased that the Board of Trustees
has committed to reduce the School's energy consumption by 20% in the
next 4 years. This goal cannot be attained, however, unless we all pitch
in. Thus, we ask for everyone's help.
We are committed to eliminate this surcharge at the earliest possible
time.

Thank you for your understanding.

------------------------
From the Registrar's Office
------------------------
The Registrar's Office will be closed from June 23 to July 4.
Will re-open on Monday July 7

------------------------
John Brock Update
------------------------
Friends-

After a procedure to perform repairs on his heart yesterday, John will
soon be released from the hospital! He expresses his extreme
thankfulness for the prayers, wishes and thoughts that have been offered
on his behalf over the past few days.

Many thanks and blessings to all.

Thursday movie night - 8 p.m. - Good Bye Lenin!
------------------------
Join the Student Association and the Office of Recruitment and
Admission this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel for Summer
Movie Night!

This week's movie is Good Bye Lenin!:

In East Germany in 1989, Alex Kerner's (Daniel Bruhl) mother Christiane
(Katrin Sass) falls into a coma just as the Berlin Wall is about to come
down. Eight months later, she wakes up, but her heart is too weak to
withstand any great shock. So Alex goes to great (and often hysterical)
lengths to keep the truth about her country's reform a secret. This
widely praised, Golden Globe-nominated comedy played in festivals around
the world.

Don't forget your comfortable cushion/chair and a sweatshirt. The
screen is theater-sized, the sound system is fantastic, and the
fellowship is priceless. Join us!

John Brock entered Newton Wellesley Hospital on Sunday with chest pain.
They admitted him, and determined that he suffered a heart attack. They
let him walk around a bit--and he was fine. On Monday John was
transferred to Mass General, where he will undergo testing to determine
the extent of the damage to his heart. I'm sure he would appreciate
visits from anyone who might be in the neighborhood. He asks that you
keep him in your prayers

Join us!

Call for New UUCANS Leadership Team

It is time to create our new leadership team so that they can begin
preparing for the fall semester. There are four slots to be filled: two
co-president, treasurer, and secretary. You can find more information
regarding the positions on connect in the revised bi-laws document.

Students interested in running for an office should submit, by email,
an expression of Intent to run to Christina Sillari (omkrimkali@aol.com
or csillari@ants.edu ) by Friday June 20th. There will be a scheduled
UUCANS meeting soon thereafter so that students will have an opportunity
to meet the candidates and ask questions.

We are also in need of a moderator for the UUCANS yahoo group as Glen
King is stepping down after a year of great work.

And Cathy French has graduated and will no longer bless us with her
worship skills which means Bruce Taylor needs a co-worker for worship.

I have learned a great deal this year in this volunteer position. I
have grown in my understanding of UU polity, strengthened my leadership
skills, and had the opportunity to work in a true collaborative effort.
Please consider running for a position on the team or volunteering for
another leadership role. We need all of us to sustain, broaden, and
deepen this powerful community at ANTS

Many Blessings,

Christina Sillari
Co-President UUCANS

Join the Student Association and the Office of Recruitment and

Wilson Chapel for Summer Movie Night!

This week's movie will be There will Be Blood:

A sprawling epic of family faith power and oil, There Will Be Blood is
set on the incendiary frontier of California's turn-of-the-century
petroleum boom. The story chronicles the life and times of one Daniel
Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) who transforms himself from a down-and-out
silver miner raising a son on his own into a self-made oil tycoon. When
Plainview gets a mysterious tip-off that there is a little town out West
where an ocean of oil is oozing out of the ground he heads with his son
H.W. (Dillon Freasier) to take their chances in dust-worn Little Boston.
In this hardscrabble town where the main excitement centers around the
holy roller church of charismatic preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano),
Plainview and H.W. make their lucky strike. But even as the well raises
all of their fortunes nothing will remain the same as conflicts escalate
and every human value love hope community belief ambition and even the
bond between father and son is imperiled by corruption deception and the
flow of oil. Daniel Day-Lewis won a 2008 Oscar for Best Actor for his
portrayal of Daniel Plainview.

Don't forget your comfortable cushion or chair. The screen is
theater-sized, the sound system is fantastic, and the fellowship is
priceless.

And Cathy French has graduated and will no longer bless us with her
worship skills which means Bruce Taylor needs a co-worker for worship.

have grown in my understanding of UU polity, strengthened my leadership
skills, and had the opportunity to work in a true collaborative effort.
Please consider running for a position on the team or volunteering for
another leadership role. We need all of us to sustain, broaden, and
deepen this powerful community at ANTS

Many Blessings,

Christina Sillari

------------------------
Join the Student Association and the Office of Recruitment and
Admission this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. (note the time change) in the
Wilson Chapel for Summer Movie Night!

The screen is
theater-sized, the sound system is fantastic, and the fellowship is
priceless. Join us!

March with Andover Newton at Boston Pride this Saturday
------------------------
This Saturday BGLANTS and friends will be marching in the annual Boston
Pride parade. You and your family are invited to join us! This is a
wonderful event so demonstrate the ONA community we strive to build. We
need to be downtown by 11:30am, and the parade usually lasts about two
hours. Their are port-a-potties on the route for tiny marchers.

If you are interested in marching, please email Burton Bagby
(bbagby@ants.edu) or Liz Miller (emiller@ants.edu) to find out our
"staging location."

We look forward to seeing all of the Andover Newton family--students,
staff and faculty--this Saturday!

Recycling TVs and More
------------------------
For those of you needing a place to deposit your old televisions,
furniture and more, and knowing that our dumpsters cannot accommodate
such items, please remember the Newton recycling center. The center (on
River St) takes computers, televisions, compact fluorescent bulbs, etc.,
and is free of charge to Newton residents. It's open every morning
except Sundays. No appointment is needed. This is a good way to get
rid of old equipment without fouling up our on-site recycling or trash
disposal systems!

Thank you,

Nancy Nienhuis

feature documentary to explore the complex global intersections between
Islam and homosexuality. CONSTANTINE'S SWORD opened May 29 and A JIHAD

UUCANS elections
------------------------
Call for New UUCANS Leadership Team

Summer Movie Night at Andover Newton Begins Thursday, June 5th!
------------------------
Beginning this Thursday, June 5th and continuing every Thursday evening
throughout the summer, the Student Association and the Office of
Recruitment and Admission have teamed up to show a movie in the Wilson
Chapel beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Chapel has a fantastic, theater-sized
screen and a great sound system. Bring your own comfortable cushion,
chair, or bean bag (or be stuck with the pretty uncomfortable chapel
chairs) and join us!

This Thursday's movie will be Juno:

Facing an unplanned pregnancy, teenage Juno (Ellen Page) devises a plan
to locate the proverbial perfect parents to adopt her baby. But the
seemingly ideal couple Juno chooses still has some growing up to do.
Now, everyone in Juno's world must do a little soul-searching. Michael
Cera co-stars while Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner play the pair of
affluent yuppies anxious for a child in this offbeat coming-of-age
comedy, which won the 2008 Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

There's no need to RSVP for any of the movirecruitevents@ants.edu. See you Thursday!

Gardening is underway....others welcome!!

The "soil" in our garden plot across the road from the southeast end of
Davis Hall is turned. There are many small rocks, so root crops are
probably not the best choice this year. Also we will want to remove some
of the remaining roots to make room for veggies. Being the first year
this has been cultivated in many years it requires some persistence to
prepare the soil. All have agreed to garden organically....no chemical
fertilizers or pesticides.

Twelve plots have been marked off with a small (about 1 foot) path
between plots. Eight plots are already claimed. The remaining four plots
are open, first come, first served.....but you must check in with us to
see which are the ones still available. We have tools that were
purchased by the SA in previous years.

Please pass the word. If you are interested contact:

In case of rain, we will have board games in the Fellowship Hall. Directions are at http://www.oldshipchurch.org/directions.html.

Gardens at ANTS
------------------------
Gardening is underway....others welcome!!

The "soil" in our garden plot across the road from the southeast end of Davis Hall is turned. There are many small rocks, so root crops are probably not the best choice this year. Also we will want to remove some of the remaining roots to make room for veggies. Being the first year this has been cultivated in many years it requires some persistence to prepare the soil. All have agreed to garden organically....no chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Twelve plots have been marked off with a small (about 1 foot) path between plots. Eight plots are already claimed. The remaining four plots are open, first come, first served.....but you must check in with us to see which are the ones still available. We have tools that were purchased by the SA in previous years.

Please pass the word. If you are interested contact:
