UUCANS Forum presents The Rev. Mark W. Harris, 2008 Minns Lecturer, Adjunct Professor-UU History, Andover Newton Theological School - Lecture 5: "A Faith for a Few?"

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 - 7pm-9pm | Wilson Chapel - Andover Newton Theological School | Free Admission

Please join us on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 7pm-9pm in Wilson Chapel at Andover Newton Theological School when UUCANS will host The Rev. Mark W. Harris, Minister of First Parish Watertown, for an encore presentation of his fifth lecture from the 2008 Minns Lecture Series, "Unitarian Universalism and Class: A Faith for a Few?" (originally presented at General Assembly, 2008).

From the Minns Lecture website (http://minnslectures.org/home.htm): Lecture 5 - A Faith for a Few?: This lecture will ask, what are some of the historical ramifications of our faith? How is class reflected in our worship and our words? Do we believe we are the best people, liberals who can save the world?
What has been our relationship to issues of race, and why have we been more successful with the gay and lesbian community in attracting newcomers? What would an anti-classist UUA look like?

Dorm Wireless Update *** New ***

Good News: Most of the dorm wireless nodes are now (or will soon be) up
and running.

Caution: The dorm network was designed for academic and light
entertainment use only. As a result, it can not handle much live gaming,
video & MP3 downloads, or Skype conversations. We believe that it was
this heavy usage that caused a cascade of failures across the campus.

Solution: The IT department is in the process of contacting vendors to
determine the cost of upgrading the dorm network. In the mean time,
please be judicious in your use of the network until such time that we
can implement an upgrade.

Please remember to thank your IT team for all of their hard work this
week: Shaun Gould, Andy Edwards, Carol Hayward & Len Hayward.

Thanks,

Caution: The dorm network was designed for academic and light
entertainment use only. As a result, it can not handle much live gaming,
video & MP3 downloads, or Skype conversations. We believe that it was
this heavy usage that caused a cascade of failures across the campus.

Solution: The IT department is in the process of contacting vendors to
determine the cost of upgrading the dorm network. In the mean time,
please be judicious in your use of the network until such time that we
can implement an upgrade.

Please remember to thank you IT team for all of their hard work this
week: Shaun Gould, Andy Edwards, Carol Hayward & Len Hayward.

Thanks,
Emily Leavitt

Noel Paul Stookey Concert (Oct. 4th) *** Share the News ***
------------------------
In his fourth decade as the 'Paul' of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Stookey's
music continues to challenge, encourage and entertain. His music has
spanned a spectrum from 'I Dig Rock And Roll Music', his '60's satire on
pop trendiness, to one of the best loved solo records, 'The Wedding
Song', which reached the top 30's of the pop charts in the early
'70's. His lyrical style, humor, and stage presence have marked
the American musical and cultural scene for almost half a century,
embodying his passionate commitment to border-crossing through song and
witness.

better at the art of healing conversation.
