Part-Time Chaplain

Job Opportunity: Part-Time Chaplain

Seafarer's Friend is a maritime ministry which has been serving seafarers in New England for 180 years. We are seeking an ordained minister or a seminarian working toward ordination, to serve as part-time (20 hours) Chaplain for the Port of Portland, Maine.

The Chaplain serves working people from foreign countries at their workplace, onboard cargo ships and tankers in the Portland, Maine. In one day, our Chaplain may visit crew members form the Philippines, Korea, Ukraine, India or China. The ability to work with people of many cultures, nationalities, and religions is essential. The Chaplain may also be available to minister to others working on the waterfront such as security guards and terminal operators. From June-October the Chaplain will also work at our Seafarer's Center welcoming crew members from Cruise ships when docked.

Training and supervision will be provided by our Mission Director. Flexible hours include weekends and evenings. As ship visiting is the primary responsibility, applicants must be able to climb gangways while carrying a backpack.

This unique "blue collar" ministry offers opportunities to welcome the stranger to Portland, Maine, and provide pastoral care aboard ships. This exciting and rewarding ministry guarantees unequaled personal fulfillment.

Visit our website www.seaferersfriend.org for further information about Seafarer's Friend.

Resumes should emailed to Mary Anne Wallace, Assistant to the Mission Director cfriends@conversent.net or mailed to
