Religion Instructor / Director of Community Service Gr 9-12
MOSES BROWN, a co-educational independent Quaker day school owned by
the New England Yearly Meeting of Friends, serves a culturally diverse
community from nursery through twelfth grade. Founded in 1784, and
located on the East Side of Providence, the school enrolls around 770
students in three divisions. There are 399 students in grades 9-12.
I. Responsibilities required for teaching classes
1. Two sections of religion, to include at least one section of
Religion and Society, our 9th and 10th grade required course, and one
upper level elective
2. Two preparations
3. A minimum of 30 students
4. Teach ninth grade service learning (minor) courses
II. Responsibilities required for Director of Community Service
1. Oversee, develop, and supervise Upper School Community Service
Program
2. Establish contacts with outside agencies
3. Work with student Community Service Board
4. Report to Head of Upper School on a regular basis
5. Attend regular Religious Life Committee meetings
III. Responsibilities required of all faculty
1. Advising (about 10 students), except for first year teachers
2. Attendance at assemblies, Quaker Meetings, forums, etc.
3. Attendance at faculty meetings and department meetings
4. Chaperoning student activities or social events
5. Supervisory tasks, as needed (e.g. student center duty during
the academic day)
6. Meeting individually with students needing extra help
7. Meeting with advisors and/or parents of students as needed
8. Grades, writing comments, interim progress reports, advisor
letters, college recommendations, and transfer recommendations
