Two Lead Religious Education Teachers

First Parish in Lexington, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation, seeks to hire two paid lead teachers for its Primary (Pre-School/Kindergarten/First Grade) and Elementary (Second/Third/Fourth Grades) Clusters. These positions will begin the third week of August, 2007, and continue through the third week of June, 2008. Availability for meetings and planning sessions in June, 2007, is also highly desirable.

General Responsibilities:
* Work under the direct supervision of the Director of Religious Education (DRE)
* Collaborate with the DRE to develop curriculum based on weekly themes
* Plan and lead weekly learning activities for assigned cluster (preschool * 1st graders, or 2nd * 4th graders)
* Lead volunteers in conducting specific cluster activities (preschool * 1st graders, or 2nd * 4th graders) related to curriculum
* Maintain attendance information and related reporting for assigned cluster (preschool * 1st graders, or 2nd * 4th graders)

Specific Requirements:
* Must be able to teach nearly every Sunday during the church year from approximately 9:30 a.m. * 12:30 p.m.
* Must be able to conduct two hours of preparation time each week during the church year (generally offsite, but may require attendance at meetings onsite), and 10 hours of preparation time prior to the beginning of the church year
* CORI check required

Experience/Strengths:
* Enjoys and relates well with young children
* Mature, responsible adult
* Collaborative, friendly nature
* Articulate
* Sense of humor
* Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
* Previous teaching experience; preferably in early childhood education or religious education
* Previous experience (preferred) or working familiarity with the values, principles, and practices of the Unitarian Universalist faith
* Ability to motivate and lead volunteers, and a willingness to work closely with parents

Compensation:
* $100/Week for 35 weeks ($20/hour, 5 hours per week)
