Associate Minister / Lay Chaplain

Ecclesia Ministries common cathedral is seeking
1) a full-time Associate Minister or
2) one part-time Associate Minister and one part-time non-ordained Chaplain.

The successful candidate(s) will provide pastoral, priestly and administrative program support for a population of homeless and marginalized persons in the Boston area, represent Ecclesia Ministries and bring the love of God to the streets of this city.

Requirements for these positions include:
Theological education at an accredited seminary,
for the full or part-time Associate Minister position, ordination in a main-line denomination;
Experience working with marginalized populations, especially unhoused people
Experience working with people who struggle with addictions and/or mental health issues very helpful.

People of color are encouraged to apply, and fluency in Spanish is preferred.

The position(s) report to the Executive Director. Salary (and benefits are?) is commensurate with denominational guidelines. (Benefits are described in the Ecclesia Personnel Manual.) Visit

Pastoral and Liturgical Responsibilities:
Street Ministry (individually and pairs) including pastoral follow-up (e.g. visiting at the Barbara McInnis House, jails, hospitals, etc)
Provide a pastoral presence at Ecclesia programs and other programs where our parishioners might be found
Serve in the preaching rotation on the Common and in churches.
Serve in the rotation of liturgical leaders at common cathedral;
Assist the Executive Director and interns in leading Sunday Gospel Reflection
Provide pastoral care at Monday lunch and lead Monday Worship
Work with the Executive Director to design and coordinate activities at CityReach
If in recovery, oversee Homeless AA meeting
Assist the Executive Director building partnerships with service providers and other urban ministers/agencies (i.e., A-1 Task Force; Doorbell Ministry; Bible Study at Veteran's Shelter, McInnis Consumer Advisory Board, etc.)
Participate in denominational and interfaith committees as appropriate
Self-care and Enrichment
Pray for the success of the ministry, praying for the people involved in the ministry, and take care of one's self in preparation for ministry
Engage in the study of homelessness and of the Gospel as a way to remain rooted in God's radical hospitality

Administrative Responsibilities:
Triage calls and emails to the office and direct them to the appropriate persons in the ministry
Supervise a volunteer in scheduling and coordination of visiting congregations and CityReach participants
Order worship supplies such as lectionary sheets, bulletins and items for special celebrations
Maintain office hours as the need is identified, so that community members can pick up items such as emergency assistance or letters written on their behalf
Organize volunteer teams to help with occasional office projects

New Initiatives:
Increase advocacy by our members, volunteers, and donors
Coordinate annual recognition of volunteers
