Job Description: Coordinator of Member Services and Volunteers
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading is a liberal religious community. As a regional church serving communities north of Boston, it welcomes people of all ages, religious backgrounds, cultural origins, differing abilities, and sexual orientations.
General Duties:
Phase One: The Coordinator of Member Services and Volunteers is responsible for working with church leadership to establish and support programs that will facilitate full participation by members, friends, visitors, and seekers in the life of the congregation. The Coordinator of Member Services and Volunteers will also provide some general office support and manage church database information.
Phase Two: Once the above-mentioned duties have been mastered, the Coordinator of Member Services and Volunteers will coordinate volunteers, work with church leadership to facilitate volunteer management programs within the congregation, provide reliable general office support and manage church database information as it relates to volunteers.
This is a people-centered position and requires outgoing personality, strong people skills, and the ability and desire to work with volunteers.
Supervision: The Coordinator of Member Services and Volunteers reports to and is supervised by the Minister.
Core Competencies:
In collaboration with church committees (membership, shared ministry team, sharing and caring, adult education, canvass, and others) and staff
* Provide a consistent point of contact for members, friends, and visitors
* Establish and support programs to facilitate the integration and participation of members and friends into the life of the church.
* Establish and support programs and processes to coordinate volunteers, including recruitment, training, and mentoring programs.
* Attend/support/coordination Introduction to Unitarian Universalism classes.
* Provide general office support for committees concerned with volunteer and membership management.
* Manage database information and correspondence to visitors, friends and members.
* Facilitate individual and group connections to encourage stewardship in the congregation.
Qualifications:
* Ability to work well with a diverse group of professionals and volunteers
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and people-focused perspective
* Successful experience working with volunteers, desire to learn and implement latest theories regarding volunteerism in a church environment.
* Proven program development and event coordination skills
* Clear oral and written communicator
* Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
* Quick learner, creative problem-solver, multi-tasker
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills
* Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information
* Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated word processing skills and relational database experience
* Familiarity with Unitarian Universalism a plus, or willingness/ability to represent a liberal faith perspective to spiritual seekers.
Hours:
Part-time, hourly, 15 hours/week, September-June, with reduced schedule July-August. Flexible hours, but with Sunday morning and Monday afternoon (for staff meeting) strongly preferred. Four nights per month needed, but more possible if evenings work better for your schedule.
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly rate: $15.00 per hour, no benefits. Flexible schedule.
