Associate Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry
Fourth Presbyterian Church, South Boston
Job Descripton: The associate director will work with the director in
leading the church's many efforts to serve children and youth,
working also with the pastor, teams of adult leaders, and session.
These programs cover significant ground, and there is flexibility in
what the particulars of the job can entail. Generally speaking,
however, the associate director is expected to be skilled at:
engaging in relationships with children and youth,
administratively leading particular programs,
leading creative programs as the actual instructor.
Current children's programming includes: Sunday School classes,
occasional outings for the children of those classes, after-school
programs, tutoring twice a week, a Saturday morning program, February
Vacation Week VBS, two "on the road" after-school programs at a
nearby housing project, a 6-week Summer Meals Program (with Mazemakers
component for 9-13 year-olds), a one-day Good Friday VBS, and other
special events (September rally day pancake party, gatherings for
Halloween and Christmas, Easter Egg Hunt, Childrens Day…)
Current youth programming includes: Sunday School class and periodic
gatherings/outings on Sundays, Friday evening youth group, three
Harambee small groups meeting on Thursday night, varied programs on
Wednesday or Tuesday. In the summer, youth ministry focuses on three
nights of "Teen Crib" per week for 8 weeks and 2-3 outings. During
the school year, there are also occasional overnights and special
trips.
The director and associate director will provide the primary staffing
for these programs, supported by volunteers in some cases, and part-time
staff in others. While particular leadership roles are flexible, it is
understood that the associate director will have a primary role in
Sunday Christian education and related special gatherings. The
associate director is also expected to staff two weekday programs, most
likely one for youth and one for children.
After-school programming stops during the summer, but Teen Crib and
Summer Meals Program operate. It is expected that the associate
director will have a presence with these programs, and hoped that s/he
will join the summer staff (for extra compensation).
Salary for 10-11 hours a week- $5000-7000 the first year (depending on
experience).
Raise of 10-15% for the second year.
Four weeks of vacation.
One week of continuing education
