Advanced Student Intern

Advanced Student Intern--$5000
Job Descripton: First Congregational Church of Milton, UCC, is seeking
a student who has completed a year of Field Education, or its
equivalent, to serve the church in a "creative capacity." Stipend
is $5000 for the academic year. Our vital church has experienced steady
numerical growth for the past several years and has been energized by
several new groups and activities that point to the deepening of
spiritual life and outreach.(Engaging women's group; workcamp
experience in New Orleans; 6-week series on issues relating to
homosexuality and gay marriage in our church; working with
Student-Intern Greta MacRae, 2008 graduate of Andover Newton).

The details of the job-description will be negotiated with the
student, based upon: 1) The student's gifts and strengths; 2) Those
areas of ministry in which the student may seek to gain practical
experience; 3) Our church's stated needs(ie, meet with some of our
Boards and committees to help to plan and enact programs and
initiatives: such as: Membership Committee(welcoming, assimilation and
engagement of new members); Diaconate (spiritual growth initiatives); 3)
Stewardship Committee(long-range plan for financial growth, new
strategies.) The student will participate regularly in the leadership
of worship, and will be encouraged to preach in the area of 6 times
during the academic year. This job description, vacation time, hours of
service, etc., are all subject to mutual negotiation.

The student will work closely with our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey P.
Johnson, a Certified Teaching Supervisor and member of the Adjunct
Faculty at Andover Newton Theological School. The student is not
expected to be the "expert" in any of the above-mentioned areas, but
needs to show a willingness to learn and grow, and to help to energize
committees and projects.
We believe that working with a student will help us to better serve
our mission to help strengthen the future leadership of the Church, and
will help the student to learn and/or enhance skills that will be most
needed in parish ministry. We look forward to working with someone who
will bring new perspectives and energy to our life-giving church!
