SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
Job Descripton: This part-time position (10 hours per week) focuses on the religious education for children, their spiritual development and safety. An understanding of, and respect for, the faith and inclusive values of our church community are of critical importance, as are team work and collegiality.

Skills Needed:
The position requires a self-starter and a self-checker with skills in theology, education, the planning of children's activities, development of volunteer staff and the ability to relate to a busy congregation. An ability to communicate well and work respectfully together with other members of the team, staff, congregation and building users is essential. Familiarity with Godly Play is a plus.

Review and Reporting:
The Sunday School Superintendent (SSS) is hired and employed by the Church Council. The SSS is responsible to the Pastor for routine administrative tasks, and the SSS is responsible programmatically to the Christian Education Committee. An annual performance review will include input from other staff, the congregation, and committees. Guidance, especially during the start-up phase, will be provided by a liaison from the Christian Education Committee.

Nature of the Position and Employment Conditions
The nature of this position is temporary, to enable the congregation to determine the future direction of the staffing of its CE program. The intent is to hire a Sunday School Superintendent in the present position for the period of one year, starting August 20, 2008. The incumbent will be eligible to apply for any permanent position that may be established as a result of the discernment process. Hiring and employment conditions will be governed by the Church of the Covenant Personnel Policy. The compensation will be in the range $10,000 to $13,000 per annum. This position is not eligible for benefits. Hiring will be contingent upon a satisfactory CORI evaluation.
