Parish Projects Coordinator, Lutheran World Relief
Job Descripton: OVERVIEW
This position develops outreach and educational materials for groups
and congregations, and informs, inspires and encourages the quilters and
kit-makers within Lutheran congregations. This position manages all
domestic components of LWR's quilt and kit ministry, tying together
its tradition and historical value with innovative new opportunities for
congregations, groups and individuals to put their faith into action.
The Parish Projects Coordinator is a member of the Church & Community
Engagement unit of the External Relations department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Educate, instruct and affirm thousands of individuals, groups and
congregations producing quilts and kits valued at $12 million annually
for distribution overseas to communities in need:
·Produce and distribute Faith in Action mailings three times a year,
collaborating with other External Relations personnel as appropriate
·Assist in the production of the Be Involved booklet, updated annually
and redesigned biennially
·Maintain and develop new content for the Be Involved section of
LWR's website, including online forms and downloadable resources
·Produce and distribute quarterly Faith in Action electronic
newsletter
·Conceptualize and participate in the production of videos related to
quilts and kits, in collaboration with the Communication unit
·Identify content for news releases, web features and newsletter or
media articles, or other educational materials in consultation with the
Program Associate for Emergency Response
·Orient staff at the LWR Resource Center to updates and changes to
quilt and kit guidelines, appropriate responses to frequently asked
questions and new resources
2. Manage all domestic components of the LWR's quilt and kit
ministry:
·Develop and implement volunteer management strategy for Key Leaders
(local organizers of LWR Ingatherings)
·Design and implement fundraising efforts to support the quilt and kit
ministry through the Project Comfort Fund and Good Samaritan Quilt
Plaza
·Work with the Program Associate for Emergency Response to manage
warehouse operations related to customer service and accurate receipting
of donations
·In collaboration with Program Associate for Emergency Response, make
recommendations to the International Programs Department regarding
changes to quilt and kit guidelines, including the elimination,
modification or addition of projects in the LWR Parish Projects
portfolio, based on research and feedback from U.S. constituents and
overseas partners
·Participate with staff in the International Programs Department in
assessing the impact of quilts and kits overseas, including at least one
annual monitoring trip to visit quilt and kit recipients and LWR's
distributing partner(s)
·Monitor trends within peer organizations operating in-kind giving
programs; identify and implement best practices
·Identify and develop proposals for new hands-on projects or
initiatives for congregations and groups that will advance the
organization toward meeting its Strategic Objectives
·Manage the Parish Projects portion of the annual operational plan and
budget of the Church & Community Engagement unit, within the framework
of LWR's strategic plan
·Ensure timely, accurate and thorough entry, ongoing management and
optimal use of data in LWR's database relating to individuals, groups
and congregations involved in Parish Projects
3. Contribute to overall External Relations activities:
·Write feature articles for the LWR newsletter, church publications,
and other strategic publications that highlight LWR's quilt and kit
ministry and other aspects of the organization
Speak and lead workshops at Lutheran events
·Assist in the planning for high-impact presence at key regional and
national events
·Participate in cross-unit teams for special projects and planning
4. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
1. Deep commitment to Lutheran World Relief's core values and ability
to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
2. Strong familiarity with Lutheran theology, church structures, and
church member motivations and sensitivities; previous work in church
context highly preferred.
3. Undergraduate degree and at least three years of experience with
progressively increasing responsibilities in congregational ministry,
grassroots community organizing, volunteer management and/or adult
non-formal education.
4. Expertise in all areas of communication, including the ability to
speak confidently in public and to write engaging and appropriate copy.
5. Demonstrated ability to take initiatives and follow through on
projects and policies; good organization skills and the ability to
manage a variety of tasks productively.
6. Ability to work as part of a team, both internally with fellow staff
as well as with LWR's partners and allies; excellent interpersonal
skills.
7. Experience in designing faith-based curriculum or ministry
programming (youth and family, outdoor ministry, etc.).
8. Creativity, imagination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to
adjust direction and strategies.
9. Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally on occasion.
10. Familiarity with publication design, print production and website
management a plus.
SUPERVISOR: Director for Church & Community Engagement
INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Works closely with Program Associate for
Emergency Response. Collaborates with Communications unit, Mission
Advancement unit and other members of Church & Community Engagement
unit.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Frequent contact with U.S. constituency,
including Key Leaders.
SALARY AND TERMS: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with
experience. This full-time position is located in Baltimore, MD. This
position is an exempt position from the fair labor standards act. An
excellent benefit package is offered.
