This quarter-time (10 hrs/week) position focuses on welcoming visitors
and integrating newcomers into the congregation. You would work with a
staff who is talented and collaborative, and there is a committed
membership committee and willing "Welcoming Corps" volunteers. The
hours are quite flexible beyond Sunday morning. Services start at 11am,
and you would generally be there from 10am-1:30pm.

Our ideal candidate would start this spring (March 2009) to learn the
position and take over from the current Membership Coordinator and be
ready to welcome the large influx of visitors in September. To apply,

Membership Coordinator at First Parish in Brookline:
Quarter-time position (10 hrs/week) at $8250 annual salary
The Membership Coordinator will be responsible for helping newcomers
and members get and stay connected to the church community. This
position reports to the Minister and will partner with the Membership
Committee, Church Administrator and Director of Religious Education.
This person will implement best practices to increase our success rate
of retaining visitors and ultimately increasing membership.
High level overview of job duties:
Welcoming Visitors
● Coordinating volunteers who welcome, follow up, and mentor
newcomers.
● Being a welcoming presence on Sunday mornings, focusing on first
time and returning visitors
● Maintaining tracking systems and updating database to stay in
touch with visitors.
● Creating and sending newcomer emails about events of interest to
them
Orienting newcomers
● Coordinate and facilitate with ministers the newcomer
orientation workshop "Exploring First Parish" Track newcomer
interests and connect with appropriate ministry team or activity
● Integrate newcomers and members into active participation in the
community by facilitating "Deepening Your Connection" workshop
series
● Welcome new members in the month that they join and connect new
member mentors with new members
Outreach and Education
● Ensure communication is in line with First Parish in
Brookline's message
● Update and create appropriate new brochures to inform people
about First Parish
● Implement "Bring a Friend" Sunday or other appropriate
outreach to community
Support Membership Committee
● Consult with Membership Committee chair about agenda for
meetings
● Attend and contribute to monthly Membership Committee meetings
The ideal candidate will be friendly, warm and engaging, willing to
work with a diverse population with differing needs. The following
skills are critical:
● Pastoral counseling skills
● Excellent problem solving skills
● Ability to think and react quickly ("think on your feet")
● Superior organizational ability
● Database skills – able to create and maintain database
● Work with Microsoft Office suite – Excel and Word in
particular

First Parish is a nearly 300 year old congregation located in a quiet
