The public is invited to the first academic lecture presented by the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Inc., since moving to the Andover Newton campus this summer. This lecture reviews psychoanalytic theories of mourning. It emphasizes the tension between acknowledgement of loss and the wish to hold on to the illusion of permanence and continuity. This view of mourning as the process of relieving that tension, a divergent conflict, is elaborated on and illustrated.
The lecture is presented by Anton O. Kris, M.D.; with discussants Lucinda DiDomenico, M.D., and Rafael Ornstein, M.D.; and moderator Richard Gomberg, M.D. The event is free and open to the public, with Continuing Education credit available for $30 (fee waived for BPSI trainees and members). Email ksmolens@bostonpsychoanalytic.org for more information about continuing education.
The event is preceded by a reception from 6-6:45 at the BPSI’s new administrative offices, 169 Herrick Road (first floor of Franklin Trask Library on the Andover Newton quad).
