Creating a Transnational Community

Location: Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Avenue, Needham, MA
The Congregational Church of Needham plans a full day of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Guatemala Partnership and shine a spotlight on the international Christian community. Events start with a morning forum featuring Paula Worby, associate director of the Multicultural Institute of Berkeley, Calif.; Russ Lohr, director of the Newton Tanzania Collaborative; Jim Wallace, founder of the Cambridge Sister City Project, a partnership with San Jose las Flores, El Salvador; and Clark Taylor, founder of the church’s Guatemala Partnership.
Workshops will follow three tracks: Building a Transnational Community, Promoting Peace and Justice, and Experiencing Our Partner Village. A $15 registration fee includes all events, lunch, and snacks. The day’s concluding event, the Despedida celebration including entertainment and a dessert buffet, runs from 7-9 p.m. and is free to the public.

Andover Newton students are invited to join the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA)’s inaugural Boston Walk for Lupus Now® at the Boston Common on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. Organizers expect 600 participants to share in a family-friendly day featuring lupus awareness and education outreach, music, prizes, and other festivities.
Volunteer opportunities include morning setup, route guidance and crowd control, water and refreshments station, t-shirt and prizes station, registrations and money collection, cleanup and breakdown, and assisting LFA stuff. All volunteers must be age 14 or older. Walk teams, sponsors, and fundraisers are also needed for the event.
Check-in begins at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at 11:00 a.m.
