The Rev. Dr. Paul Adkins will be honored Feb. 1, 2013, for decades of service as a United Church of Christ minister and teacher. Dr. Adkins will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Ministerial Leadership Award at the sold-out 2013 Woodbury Leadership Workshop, an all-day event at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Mass.

Description: Before making any decisions, Jesus prayed, seeking God’s will. How often is this the foundation of decisions in our congregations? Most of our churches are wedded more to following particular rules for debate and decision-making than they are to prayer. But what if you could find a way to root your board, committee, and congregational decisions in Jesus’ model of prayer and discernment? What if you could train your leaders follow God’s guidance? This two-week seminar will provide the opportunity for you to discover and discuss new ways of being a church grounded in prayer and discernment with Graham Standish, author of Becoming a Blessed Church. .

On selected afternoons this year members of the Andover Newton faculty will come to the President’s home and share their personal spiritual journey with those gathered. The program is informal and only lasts about an hour. For those in attendance, it is a unique opportunity to get to know Andover Newton’s faculty members in a new and meaningful way. Are you in the MDiv or MARE program? Have you done your field education requirement? If not and you may be thinking of doing field education next academic year (2013-2014), then you will need to attend a Field Education Information Session this semester if you have not already done so. The next meeting will be Friday, Feb. 22, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Peck Room.

Please remember that for all students in the MDiv and MARE programs this is a requirement, and attending one of the information sessions is a part of that requirement.
