“Streaming Shabbat”

Off Campus Event

4:00 pm

Location: Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center, 333 Nahanton St., Newton, Mass.

Selmadanse, Joanie Block & Dancers presents Streaming Shabbat, an evening of dance, music, and memory. Ritual, tradition, and memory are woven together in choreographer Joanie Block’s newest creation, Streaming Shabbat. This multimedia performance about women and their experience of the Jewish Sabbath, including stories from the Talmud, the Holocaust, and modern day, was inspired by Joanie’s own memory of how the gift of a Shabbat image sustanied her through a frightening brush with ovarian cancer. An original score by Billy Novick and Willie Sordillo and video art by Lynn Bikofsy merge with Joanie’s choreography creating an evening that inspires, challenges, and ultimately connects us to the universal power of light.
