Bob will teach you the steps to build a crisis response team to address the media with a consistent message best representing your organization.

We will teach you how to write a press release; how to conduct a news conference; and how to prepare to be on air in an adversarial environment.

Gender Literacy for Faith Leaders (w/ repeat session)

Community

3:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Wilson Chapel

Contact: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Trans*, Genderqueer, Cisgender, Asexual, Omnigender, Gay, Bi, Lesbian, Pansexual.

If you don’t know what those words mean, or the identities around them, you might want to come to this program. Because people who identify as some or all of those things are going to be in your congregation at some point in your ministry. And it will be your job to minister to them and to the congregation as it learns how to accept a new stripe of diversity.

Many churches are already Welcoming Congregations, or Open and Affirming, or Open, Affirming and Reconciling Congregations with regards to people who identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. This program reviews basic information about those identities as well as addresses some of the unique pastoral needs of people who identify on the transgender, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, and trans* spectrum.

In the coming years, the tricky and uncomfortable issues facing clergy will no longer be about sexual orientation, but about gender and relationships. To get a basic overview of terms, identities, pronouns, behaviors, and how to not accidentally offend, come to either of these two free workshops. There will be plenty of time for questions throughout.

The program lasts about two hours, includes a Powerpoint Presentation and a packet of resources. The presentation will be identical at each session. Two sessions are being offered—from 3-5 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. to serve as many students as possible.

Sponsored by UUCANS and BGLANTS.
