Site Description

January 2011We have enjoyed serving as a Teaching Parish with both ANTS and HDS since 1997. Our church has 594 members. Adult worship attendance averages 175, and church school enrollment is about 100. We are a vital, mainline church that has served Westboro and the region for 285 years. We are a multi-staff church with a full-time Interim Pastor and half-time Associate Pastor. In addition, there are two administrative associates staff, plus several other support staff. Many of our members are leaders in town government, commerce, education, scouting, and area service agencies. One of our greatest strengths is our music ministry. We have choral and bell choirs serving all ages and a wonderful Trinidadian Music Director who mixes sacred, gospel, and praise music with classical and jazz. Another strength is the rich and varied programs of Christian Education. We utilize a Rotational Model Church School Curriculum and offer a variety of adult education programs including seasonal studies, the Confirmation class and spirited retreats for families and women. We also have active youth programs for 5-6th graders, Junior Highs and Senior Highs led by dedicated volunteers. All our youth groups feature an active, hands-on mission component. For a week each summer, our Senior Highs participate in a Youth Work Camp service project. Forty young people and advisors will be heading to Keansburg, New Jersey in 2011. The Women’s Fellowship engages women of all ages in lively, fun and meaningful programs and numerous outreach and service projects. The “Called to Care” visitation ministry reaches out to those who are homebound, ill or in crisis. And a new interfaith group, “The Journey Home Singers”, has been formed as a ministry to individuals and families facing end-of-life issues. Our Mission and Social Concerns Committee continues to grow in partnership with Table Mountain Church in South Africa as it deepens its commitment to meaningful and hands-on service through more than 25 local and global projects.

Stipend Expectation

This site meets the stipend expectation

Student Involvement

There are a wide variety of ministries in which the seminarian might become engaged. Because of the current staff mix, we are able to encourage the Student Minister to explore any and all areas of ministry. We are committed to working collegially with a student to develop a job description that will meet his/her learning goals and needs. We feel this church is a place where the Student Minister can be creative while experiencing ministry as partnership, and have a broad variety of experiences that would enhance her/his learning process, spiritual formation and pastoral identity. There are ample opportunities for a student to engage in preaching, worship leadership, pastoral care, Christian education, program development, spiritual growth, mission outreach, discipleship training, youth ministries and any number of other ministry areas.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

We are committed to working with the student to develop a learning agreement and job description that meets his/ her goals. We have all completed the ANTS TPC training and our Associate Pastor is a trained supervisor. Both pastors and the entire congregation enthusiastically support our Field Education involvement.

Special Considerations

We are located at a key Central Massachusetts crossroads, where Routes 9, 20, 495 and 90 (MassPike) intersect. We are a 35-40 minute/28 mile drive from ANTS. Westboro is also right on the Commuter Rail- on the South Station-Worcester line.

The site meets the stipend expectation and covers ministry-related out-of-pocket expenses.
