President Carter Calls for Help for Myanmar
May 05, 2008
Good people:
The news from Myanmar is heart-rending. The latest reports are that in the wake of the deadliest cyclone in that country’s history, there are more than 22,000 people dead and more than 40,000 people missing. All indications are that the numbers will continue to rise. Much of the country is without electricity, communications and transportation.
I have been asked by Andover Newton student Ai Doh for “prayers for our people and especially our Pwo Kayin Theological Seminary where Dr. Maung Maung Htwe and Dr. Soe Thi Ha are teaching.” Ai Doh shares the sad news that all staff buildings are destroyed and roofs at that seminary were ripped out by the storm.
In addition, this next week Dr. Maung Maung Yin from Myanmar Institute of Theology will be on campus for our Mission Conference (May 10) and for Alumni/ae Convocation (May 15). Dr. Yin is still anxious about members of his family, about whom he has heard nothing for the past 4 days.
We will accept donations for Myanmar relief in the President’s office for the next week.
Please include all the people of Myanmar in your prayers this week.
Sincerely,
Nick Carter
