Dale Hempen

BIOGRAPHY:

Ordained in 1970, Dale served two local churches, both in the Iowa Conference: First Congregational United Church of Christ, Creston, Iowa (’70-’75) and Zion United Church of Christ, Burlington, Iowa (75’-87’). From 1987-1998, Reverend Hempen ministered on the Ohio Conference Staff as the Association Conference Minister in Eastern Ohio Association, North
Canton, Ohio, overseeing Search and Call, programs and conflicts for the 121 local churches.

In 1998, Dale was called to the Massachusetts Conference, Southeast Region, which includes Pilgrim, Barnstable (Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard) and Old Colony Association, a total of 78 local churches.

While on the Massachusetts Conference Staff, his job description included Coordinator of Search and Call; Overseer of Boundary Awareness Training and Fitness Reviews, as well as Convener of Regional Associate Ministers. Reverend Hempen also was the staff liaison for the Transitional Ministry Committee (Interims) as well as Coordinator for Interim Searches, having taken both the introductory and advanced Interim Network Training.

During his tenure in Massachusetts Conference, 1998-2012, Dale also co-taught United Church of Christ History, Theology and Polity as an Adjunct Professor at Andover Newton with Dr. Beth Nordbeck.
