Susan Suchocki Brown
Director of Ministry Studies

B.S., University of Mass. University without Walls in Alcohol education and counseling
M.Div., Andover Newton Theological School
D.Min., Andover Newton Theological School

While attending the Unitarian Universalist church of her youth, The Reverend Dr. Susan Suchocki-Brown would often watch the minister and imagine that she could and wanted to do what he was doing. Eventually, she was able to pursue this calling at Andover Newton and make ministry her career and profession. In May 2002, 10 years after receiving her Master of Divinity degree, she received a Doctorate in Ministry from the school, with a thesis project that addressed anti-oppression, anti-racism, and multicultural transformation of institutions and individuals, by looking at the issue from a theological, social, congregational and systemic perspective.

Because she had such a positive experience as a Student Intern Minister, she became a supervisor to other students through the Andover Newton Field Education program.

Founding member in October 1999, of the Massachusetts Corps of Fire Chaplains, Susan still serves on the Board and as a District Representative.  This is an Interfaith group of Chaplains who serve Fire Departments across the state of Massachusetts, and who respond within and across state lines if requested and authorized by the Massachusetts Fire Marshall and the Deputy Chief Chaplain. This is the first ever state wide interfaith Corps of Chaplains.

Rev. Dr. Suchocki-Brown is also a founding member and current President of the Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry Team. Founded in 2001 following  9-11 it fulfilled the desire to have trained, authorized Unitarian Universalist responders to congregations, affiliates, and as support to UU ministers and the UUA in cases of disaster and traumatic events.

Since 1992, Rev. Dr. Suchocki-Brown has been parish minister at First Church Unitarian Universalist church of Leominster, Mass., and Chaplain to the Leominster Fire Department since 1996.
