Biography:
Nita Penfold rejoices in bringing spirituality and the arts together for adults and youth and in her daily life. Her poetry has been widely published, and she edited the book Hunger Enough: Living Spiritually in a Consumer Society in 2004. Her assemblage art was featured in Shrines and Other Prayers, a one woman show in St. Johnsbury Vermont in March, 2005. (see www.nitapenfold.com) She also specializes in bringing participatory worship to congregations that combine the arts with interactive ritual and body prayer.
Nita Penfold is co-developer and sole trainer of the Montessori-based Unitarian Universalist religious education program, Spirit Play, traveling to churches across the continent. She served churches for 16 years as a Director of Religious Education. Her Doctorate in Ministry from Wisdom University in California enabled her to work with theologian Matthew Fox on Creation Spirituality and the Arts as Meditation, resulting in a dissertation entitled, Doing Theology: From Fragmentation to Wholeness.
An artist in residence from 2001 through 2005 at Andover Newton, she led workshops in writing from the soul, creation spirituality, and Tapate to students and directors of religious education and for the Faith Youth Institute. Nita Penfold has been adjunct faculty since 2003.
