Biography:
LiErin Probasco will complete a PhD in sociology at Princeton University in 2012. Her research examines the ways religious citizens of the US think about transnational connections and the tensions between charity and social justice. Her dissertation explains how religious volunteer tourists in Nicaragua construct ideas about sustainable poverty alleviation in response to their face-to-face interactions with locals.
LiErin has worked on young adult ministries issues with the United Church of Christ since the age of 17. She advocates for the inclusion of young adult voices in leadership positions in all settings of the church. She served on the Ecumenical Young Adult Ministries Team of the National Council of Churches and helped launch the New Fire young adult ecumenical movement in 2008. LiErin is a lay leader in the United Church of Christ and attends Christ Congregation, an ecumenical congregation in Princeton, NJ.
