Site Description

Suburban congregation across from the town common in an economically diverse area. The mission of the congregation is "to express the love and welcome of Christ in word and action in our community and the wider world." We are an open and affirming church of about 250 members who come from a variety of religious backgrounds. We believe that "God is Still Speaking." Worship incorporates different faith traditions and musical styles. The church has a long history dating back to 1651 when John Eliot translated the Bible to preach in their own language to the native American community gathered along the Charles River. A peace pole has stood on the front lawn of the church for many years to commemorate a peace witness that gathered on that site. The church building became fully accessible in time for the 350th anniversary of founding. Some programs of interest are the West Virginia Work Camp, the Alternative Holiday Fair, Godly Play - a Montessori based curriculum for children's faith formation, and Journey to Adulthood for youth. Plans are underway for our congregations to join an Interfaith Hospitality Network that is organizing in Metrowest.

Stipend Expectation

This site meets the stipend expectation

Student Involvement

Using the church's mission statement as a reference point, the student works with the Teaching Parish Committee and supervisor to design an educational experience in areas that foster the student's growth and professional discovery.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

The congregation enjoys the gifts, ideas and energy that students bring. There are no particular programatic expectations. Volunteers for the Teaching Parish Committee are always eager to serve and we are committed to creating a committee that reflects the congregation, but which also has the gifts and ability to support the student's process.

Special Considerations

The church is located three blocks from the Natick train station.
