First Congregational Church, UCC of Whitman is an church community with a strong focus on reaching out into the world. We have 200+ active members and an average weekly attendance of 115 with an active Sunday school, youth group and adult Bible study programs. The Mission of the First Congregational Church, UCC of Whitman is to welcome all in common worship and celebration of God’s love; to hear the word of God and put it into action through the education of children, youth, and adults. In order to encourage faith and Christian living in an ever-changing world, we seek opportunities to provide a nurturing presence of care, love, and healing. We gather together with the understanding that each person is entrusted with special gifts to develop and grow in God’s service in the local and world community.

Student Involvement

Student will engage in many aspects in the life of the church. The specific tasks of the Student will be mutually agreed up depending on the student's experience, interests and background as well as the needs of the Minister and the Church. Expectations of the student include: a strong interest in parish ministry and religious education, readiness to give of self to others, ability to respect confidences, genuine caring and respect for others. Opportunities will be given on a regular basis to plan, lead and participate in weekly worship services.Weekly schedule: Sundays are a must and other days can be negotiated with student.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

First Congregational Church has a long history of serving as a Teaching Parish Site and has seen several of its own members receive and respond to the call of ordained ministry. There is a deep sense of responsibility towards our call as a church to help foster the next generation of church leaders.
