Site Description

First Parish Church United in Westford, Massachusetts is a creative, playful, growing community of faith. Affiliated with two denominations (The United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association) we expect a diversity of theology, experience and interests within the congregation. What we tend to have in common is a desire to join together to worship, celebrate, and help the world. Our faith community has a membership of approximately 292 people, and on any given Sunday there is an average of 130 people in attendance. The congregation, like the suburban town in which it is located, is predominately made up of middle-class, Caucasian families with children. There are also some Asian families, mature couples and single parents with children. We have recently completed a building project to provide full physical accessibility. It is exciting to think about what opportunities this new reality might provide.

Student Involvement

First Parish Church United welcomes ministers-in-training to experience, learn and grow within our faith community. We will work with each student to support individual goals and strengths, with the shared aspiration of enrichment and growth for the student and the congregation. The student will have a variety of ministerial opportunities to explore—such as: youth and small group ministry, worship participation, social justice projects, the open and affirming process, pastoral care and life cycle events. By providing a supportive setting for ministers-in-training, both the student and the church community will benefit in finding a deeper meaning to a life of ministry through our shared learning experiences.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

As a faith community we enjoy new experiences, welcome new ideas, and have the benefit of a shared ecumenical ministry. We welcome the opportunity to nurture a student’s growth and be nurtured by them, to guide them and be guided by them, to be with them fully as they share their ministerial journey with us.We have only been a teaching parish for one year, but absolutely loved the experience. We greatly benefited from what our first student brought us and believe we played a significant role in strengthening that student's call to ministry. We look forward to continuing this work with a new student!
