Hearlsons to Move On at End of Academic Year
Faculty Couple, Son, to Move to Philadelphia

Andover Newton Theological School’s Dean Sarah Drummond has announced that Adam and Christy Hearlson, two cherished educators at Andover Newton, will move to Philadelphia at the close of the 2016-17 academic year. Sarah expressed excitement for the new opportunities Christy and Adam will pursue but also sadness over how much the family will be missed at Andover Newton.

The Rev. Dr. Christiane Lang Hearlson, Director of Academic Advising and Assessment and Instructor in Practical Theology, has accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Religious and Theological Education at Villanova University. Christy will continue in her role at ANTS through the end of June.

The Rev. Prof. Adam Hearlson, has served as Andover Newton's Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship and Director of Wilson Chapel since 2013. He and Christy have raised their young son Elliot on the hill, and they are expecting another child in March. Adam will continue to provide educational leadership for Andover Newton’s Cooperative MDiv through May of 2018 and might take on other roles from a distance. Worship next year at Andover Newton will change shape and be led by a team after some time of discernment between the now and the fall of 2017.

Few have contributed as much to the campus community life as Adam and Christy Hearlson. They hosted weekly potlucks in their on-campus residence’s yard each summer they were in the Andover Newton community and were fixtures at School events. Visit us on Facebook, and you will see their playful good natures in photos from the Andover Newton Christmas Pageant this past December.

Both Christy and Adam wish to express how deeply grateful they feel for the time they have spent here at ANTS, and for the wonderful way this community has supported them as a family.
