The internship program is an extensive, structured, professional experience that offers a student the opportunity to integrate seminary education with the praxis of ministry. It provides situations for the student to utilize his or her gifts within designated areas of ministry within the life of the congregation. Areas of concentration for an intern will be determined on an individual basis. Each individual will have the opportunity to develop a ministry plan for the summer.
About the church: First Baptist Church of Peoria is located in the center of the city. The city itself has a population of 130,000 and the metropolitan area is comprised of 350,000 people. Our membership was 682 as of December 31, 2008. A majority of us live within or near the city limits, but the membership also includes some who live in surrounding communities including Metamora, Tremont, Hanna City, East Peoria, Morton, Washington and Farmington, primarily within a twenty-mile radius. Our members represent a wide variety of professions and avocations. These include those involved in construction and sales, school teachers and administrators, college professors, librarians, accountants, graphic arts experts, architects, bankers, doctors, nurses and others.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Regular interaction with pastoral and administrative staff
- A weekly supervision session
- Weekly worship planning with the pastoral and music staff (including 1-2 sermons for the intern to preach during the course of the summer)
