King’s Chapel seeks a full-time Assistant Minister who can begin work on or before Sept. 1, 2014.
The Assistant Minister will report to the Senior Minister and assist her in a manner that reflects the Assistant Minster’s comparative skills and interests. We are looking for a person with particular experience and strength in Children and Family Ministry. An effective Assistant Minister also will have experience and interest in religious education, preaching, pastoral care of all ages, alternative worship leadership, and church growth.
King’s Chapel is a Christian church affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. This position is open to liberal Christians ordained or eligible to be ordained in other traditions. The Assistant Minister will be asked to regularly lead the Christian sacraments of communion and baptism; will be asked by the minister to perform weddings and funerals; and will preach at the 11 .m. Sunday service once a month, and on other occasions.
King’s Chapel, located in the heart of Boston on the historic Freedom Trail, is a liberal Christian Church welcoming to all. It is congregational in governance, and at its main 11 a.m. Sunday service follows an Anglican pattern of worship, using the King’s Chapel Book of Common Prayer, and following the Revised Common Lectionary. Family services are held the first and third Sundays of each month at 9:45 a.m., followed by classes. It is anticipated that the church will begin to offer an additional non-prayer book service; the assistant minister will be an important part of the worship planning team for that service.
In addition to the ministers, paid staff includes a full-time Music Director and Organist and a Parish Administrator, plus these part-time staff: children’s education director, children’s music director, bookkeeper, administrative assistant, lead tour guide, sexton and building vergers. There is an active and talented elected lay leadership.
King’s Chapel is at an exciting time: In March 2013 we called a new senior minister, ordained by the United Church of Christ. She seeks a colleague with whom she, other staff, and congregational leadership can craft and implement a renewed focus on vibrant worship, meaningful adult and children’s religious education, membership growth, and service with the community. Pursuant to the UUA tradition, the Assistant will be a contract employee, renewable annually. The expectation is that the Assistant is in a position to make a multi-year commitment.
Compensation will be dependent upon experience, and will include a cash salary of approximately $30,000; housing in the form of a newly renovated studio apartment located on the 5th floor of the Parish House, accessible by elevator, overlooking the Boston Common; and benefits.
