Transitional Revitalization Minister, River Ridge, Louisiana

Revitalization Transitional Minister Opportunity
Little Farms United Church of Christ
135 Sauve Road
River Ridge, LA 70123

This is an opportunity for a person to consider a position as Revitalization Transitional Minister at Little Farms United Church of Christ located in River Ridge, Louisiana. We hope to enrich members’ spiritual lives by being a repository of love, a beacon of solutions, and an anchor of hope for our neighborhoods and community as a whole.

Little Farms UCC was established in 1953 and was the first Open and Affirming congregation in the New Orleans Association. The church’s survival of several internal events reflects the resiliency of the congregation’s members. The church is stable and open to growth with the right leadership.

Average attendance has held steady at 35-40 adults and 8-14 children throughout the pulpit vacancy. An interim pastor is successfully helping the congregation move forward from the loss of a pastor of 14 years into preparation for a new direction. Little Farms UCC has the potential to be the first liberal Protestant church in this area.

In 2010, Little Farms UCC was chosen as one of five congregations in the New Orleans Association to participate in the “From Surviving to Thriving Initiative,” led by the national church. Representatives of the five churches meet monthly as a leadership council under the guidance of a pastoral coach. The council explores ways to strengthen the churches through ministry and mission, individually and collectively.

The Surviving to Thriving council will serve as a resource for our Revitalization Transitional Minister.

Our Town

River Ridge is a residential portion of the New Orleans Metropolitan Statistical Area, situated approximately 20 minutes from downtown New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina, the growth of our city and surrounding neighborhoods has enabled the City of New Orleans to move upward as a desirable place to live:

  • New Orleans is now rated as the #1 city for entrepreneurs and has seen an influx of young urban professionals.
  • The city is implementing plans to renovate housing to make it more affordable for first responders.
  • New Orleans has a more stable and progressive housing market than other Southern areas.
  • Growth of the local filmmaking industry has earned New Orleans the nickname “Hollywood South.”

Our Mission

The mission statement of Little Farms United Church of Christ is “To be a loving, accepting, ministering Christian family, open to all.”

Our future goals are to increase membership and achieve more stability. We realize this can be accomplished by extending our mission and ministries to the surrounding community.

The Revitalization Transition Minister will:

  • Evaluate and assess needs of the community around the church.
  • Be responsible for developing measurable goals and objectives with the membership that address growth and sustainability with Little Farms UCC.
  • Lead the congregation in weekly Sunday worship and Bible study.
  • Develop and implement programs for youth, singles, couples, and retirees.

Evaluations and supervision will be accomplished by our Church Council along with the additional guidance provided by a team of UCC Pastors from the Surviving to Thriving Leadership Council. We are seeking a full-time time seminary intern, a recent seminary graduate, or an ordained Pastor of the UCC or recognized partners. The church will use the South Central Conference guidelines when negotiating a salary and benefits.
