Director of Children’s Formation, Waltham, MA


Christ Church Waltham is a welcoming Episcopal community brought together in our common worship of God and united in our desire to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves. This leadership position includes administration, communication, and coordination of all youth and church school programs in collaboration with rector and lay leaders. This position is supervised by the rector.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversee children’s programming, facilitating day-to-day operations.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enrich educational experience
  • Recruit and nurture teachers
  • Seasonal evening events and series (e.g. Lenten weeknights, Christmas Pageant, etc)
  • Active participation in Sunday services and children’s programming (taking part in teacher rotation)
  • Foster inter-generational relationships
  • Regularly meet with rector to discuss and plan upcoming events
  • Work with the director of music to facilitate children’s choir
  • Periodic meeting and consistent communication with classroom teachers

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong spiritual grounding and comfort with Episcopal tradition
  • Strong organizational as well as interpersonal skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to actively engage children in learning and development
  • Ability to foster a sense of joy and wonder in children for worship and serving God
  • Work effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Familiarity with Godly Play curriculum a plus; willing to be trained if not already familiar


  • $10,000 annually for an average of 12 hours per week (actual hours vary seasonally)
  • Month of July off, plus two vacation weeks
  • Personal and sick time in accordance with parish personnel policy
