Located in the historic Carrollton neighborhood of New Orleans, Central St. Matthew UCC is a city church drawing its membership from throughout the metropolitan area. Formed after Hurricane Katrina by the unification of two longstanding congregations, we are uniquely representative of our city’s racial, civic, and cultural diversity. Our members work closely together, sharing their spiritual gifts in a harmonious environment, and are very active in social action and embracing the challenges facing our community and the nation as a whole.
We are also proud of our recent UCC designation as an official Open and Affirming congregation. Our prayer is to call a pastor who will use his or her creativity and energy to engage our congregation in lively worship and to present scripture in a way that will inspire and empower us to serve God in a complex world.
Central St. Matthew has a story to tell, and we hope to find a pastor excited to help us do it.
Ours is a story of a congregation’s new life together as a place of welcome for all; and it is a story about living together with a spirit of Christianity in this time and place. We believe our story can be good news for many who seek a supportive community on life’s journey. We look forward to a pastoral leader who can guide us to reach those seekers with our story and encourage them to become a part of it.
