Music Director, Bedford, TX

Cathedral of Hope Mid-Cities - United Church of Christ is seeking a Director of Music. We are a small congregation with an average attendance of 50 people on Sunday. Duties are playing the piano for worship and accompanying guest musicians; directing our small choir, which sings two Sundays a month; selecting music for worship and helping with music prep for the bulletin/presentation. We seek a musician who can serve as worship leader and help set a tone or mood for our worship experience. We sing and enjoy a wide variety of music styles, embracing classical numbers, traditional hymns, and contemporary Christian music.

We worship on Sunday mornings at the Old Bedford School, which has a well maintained grand piano. The choir rehearses 9:30-10:45 a.m., and worship is 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Since we rent space on Sundays, there are no mid-week rehearsals or services. The Music Director typically works 9 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. on Sundays and prep time during the week.

We are a progressive Christian Church that is welcoming of all people and a broad range of theological perspectives. We are currently about 85 percent gay, lesbian, bi and transgender folks and 15 percent heterosexual.

We are a church plant from The Cathedral of Hope in Dallas with plans of becoming our own United Church of Christ church by the end of 2015. The music director does have access to the Dallas church music files.

While we are small, we have several strong musicians in the congregation. We have a member who is a TCU student studying violin; a viola player who plays in a community symphony; a retired bassoonist from the Washington, D.C., symphony; an elementary school music teacher who plays trombone; and husbands of two members who are professional musicians who play special music from time to time. We had a wonderful orchestra for our Christmas Eve worship.

Our Director of Music will be responsible for inviting and rehearsing with these guest musicians.

Salary is negotiable depending on experience and ability to lead worship. We are willing to consider someone with less experience who has desire and potential.

Our current musicians will work through April 12, and we seek an interim or permanent musician in place by April 19.
