Boston Theological Institute
Andover Newton belongs to the Boston Theological Institute(BTI), an association of nine theological schools in the Greater Boston area. In addition to ANTS the BTI consists of:
- Boston College Department of Theology
- Boston College School of Theology and Ministry
- Boston University School of Theology
- Episcopal Divinity School
- Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
- Harvard Divinity School
- Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology
- St. John's Seminary
This organization is one of the oldest and largest theological consortia in the United States. The libraries of the Institute contain a total of over one and one-half million volumes. More than 3,000 students of the member schools can cross register for over 700 courses taught by over 200 full-time faculty.
Relation to Other Libraries: Partners in Collection Development
The Library depends upon other area libraries to supplement its own resources. As a member of the BTI students and faculty of ANTS have access to the library resources of the other BTI institutions. Because of this close relationship, Trask Library does not collect general materials supporting Methodist (Boston University), Unitarian (Harvard Divinity School), Orthodox (Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology), Episcopal (Episcopal Divinity School), and Catholic (Boston College Department of Theology, Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, St. John's Seminary) studies.
Students at ANTS may borrow books in person from the libraries of all BTI member schools. Books may be returned in person or they may be returned to the Circulation Desk for routing via the BTI messenger services. Books may also be borrowed through ILL services. Regularly enrolled ANTS students have borrowing privileges at most libraries in the Harvard University Library system with their vast holdings of over ten million items.
