Site Description

MCC has about 210 members. We are an Open and Affirming congregation in the United Church of Christ. The church’s roots date back to 1640 and there are many who enjoy the history of the church and the town. At the same time, we are looking forward to the future and seeking ways to reach out to those who are looking for a church. Although there is a range of economic backgrounds, the majority of the congregation leads a comfortable life. Many are successful professional leaders. Music is a strong part of MCC’s identity and outreach to our community. The church has been Open and Affirming since 1996 and has welcomed in many diverse families. In 2013, we reaffirmed our commitment to serving as an Open and Affirming Congregation by updating our statement to include a specific welcome to all regardless of gender identity and expression. Although we are open to anyone regardless of race and ethnicity, we are largely Caucasian. Our staff is comprised of a full time Pastor, part-time ministers (non-ordained) for youth and music. Over the past few years we have welcomed in many younger families. We are working to create intergenerational activities for the children to spend time with the seniors in the congregation. There are also a large number of “empty nesters.”

Student Involvement

Field Ed students will have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of ministry activities at MCC. The TPC and Pastor will work with you in charting your course for the year. There are opportunities for pastoral visits, leading Bible studies and Confirmation classes, as well as leading worship and preaching. If you choose, you will be able to work with our Minister of Youth Spiritual Development in working with the children of the church. Or perhaps you’d like to be a part of planning worship in conjunction with the Minister of Music and the Pastor.Field Ed students will be invited to participate as part of the staff and attend staff meetings to collaborate with church personnel.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

Learning Agreements are designed to support both the needs and interests of the Seminarian as well as the needs of the church. MCC's Pastor and Teacher contribute to the mentoring of seminarians, and is a certified supervisors and has a strong personal interest in seeing that seminarians find their time here to be both rewarding and transformative. The lay members of the active Teaching Parish Committee work closely with students, staff, and congregation to provide continuing guidance and encouragement.

Special Considerations

Sudbury has no public transportation options. This may be a difficult placement for a student without her or his own transportation.
