Sylvia spent more than a decade as CEO of YWCA Boston, leading a transition to focus the group's efforts on addressing the results of racial disparities in America. A former real estate financier, she spent several years in nonprofit leadership before joining YWBoston and was active in the United Church of Christ, including service on the United Church Funds Board, the Massachusetts Conference Board as its chair, and the Governance Task Force of the UCC.

She earned a bachelors degree at Cornell University and a juris doctorate at Yale Law School.

Ms. Ferrell-Jones received a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University, then went on to receive a Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Old South Church, 645 Boylston Street, in Boston. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the YWBoston's Sylvia Ferrell-Jones Fund.
