Adjunct faculty member co-authors “much-needed book”

Tigert Book

Pilgrim Press has released All Whom God Has Joined: Resources for Clergy and Same-Gender Couples (ISBN 978-0-8298-1838-3). Prepared by Andover Newton adjunct Professor Rev. Dr. Leanne McCall Tigert, M.Div. ‘84, D.Min. ‘94, and Maren C. Tirabassi, the book is the first of its kind.

The book provides, in single volume, a collection of liturgical and ceremonial resources as well as pastoral care tools and insights on same-sex coventanting ceremonies for clergy and couples addressing these issues. The title is also intended, its publisher says, for those who want a clearer understanding of the subject of same-sex couples.

All Whom God Has Joined is available in the Andover Newton Bookstore.

The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire, writes in his forward to the book: “Anyone looking to construct a ceremony of union that will express her or his deep commitment to another will find this book comforting and supportive, as well as practical and helpful. It’s high time for such a book, and I’m delighted to commend it to those considering such a ceremony and to those who counsel them.”

“The co-authors bring personal experience and pastoral wisdom to a much-needed book for any pastor, same-gender-loving-couple, seminarian, layperson, or advocate who wants to support those who covenant as same-gender partners,“adds Joretta Marshall, Professor of Pastoral Theology, Care & Counseling, Brite Divinity School.

Leanne McCall Tigert, who holds two Andover Newton degrees, is an ordained United Church of Christ minister and an adjunct professor at Andover Newton. Author of a number of books, she co-edited Transgendering Faith: Identity, Sexuality, and Spirituality and Caring for Ourselves While Caring for Our Elders.

Maren C. Tirabassi is an ordained United Church of Christ minister. She has co-written or co-edited eight books, including Transgendering Faith: Identity, Sexuality, and Spirituality; Caring for Ourselves while Caring for Our Elders; Before the Amen: Creative Resources for Worship; and Gifts of Many Cultures: Worship Resources for the Global Community.
