President Nick Carter announced this week that the Andover Newton Bookstore will be closing, effective July 1. “It is with regret that we take this step, but the academic retail book business presents too many challenges to a school like Andover Newton. So it is that we must join the ranks of so many other colleges and seminaries and say good bye to our bookstore.”
The Andover Newton Bookstore, located in Upper Noyes Hall in recent years, has been under the able leadership of Joyce Simon. President Carter hailed Simon’s efforts: “Joyce has led a remarkable ministry in our bookstore for 14 years. Students, faculty, alums and area clergy have all looked to her for assistance and Joyce has always met their needs with grace and professionalism. Joyce’s hard work enabled us to have a quality service many years longer than other larger institutions.”
In coming days the school will unveil a new “virtual” bookstore that will enable the school’s many constituencies to purchase books, supplies and school loyalty items online.
