Our search for a new president of Andover Newton Theological School has begun. This is the first report on the search committee’s initial progress and plans. We have begun the search immediately with the intention of completing the search by December 2013. This will allow an adequate transition period before the new president assumes office no later than summer 2014.
The Presidential Search Committee met for the first time on April 24, 2013. We have engaged AGB Search of Washington, D.C. to assist us with the search. Dr. Tobie van der Vorm and members of the search committee spent time with the Andover Newton community on April 24 and 25 to learn more about our leadership needs. That visit included conversations with many of you, and I thank you for your time and thoughtful input into the process.
Based on conversations with all constituencies, a position profile will be prepared as a working document, including a list of leader¬ship qualities we believe will be important for the president to possess. The profile will be placed on the Andover Newton website when the search committee has finalized the document.
We will generate the candidate pool through nominations received from you, national educa¬tion and founda¬tion officials, other theological schools, friends of Andover Newton, advertising in appropriate sources, and the work of our consultant. In September we will begin to narrow the candidate pool, moving toward a time later in the fall when interviews involving the entire campus will be held. We hope you will make time to participate and share your impressions with the search committee.
Our search is off to a good start. We will write to you again as we enter subsequent stages of the process. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns along the way.
Rev. Jim Sherblom
Chair, Presidential Search Committee
