Scholarship Recipients Honored

On March 29, 2007, recipients of the Kelsey Merit Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship, the William and Lucille Nickerson Merit Scholarship, the Hearst Scholarship and the Hancock Fellowship were honored at a luncheon in the Peck Room at Andover Newton Theological School. The luncheon was attended by Andover Newton administrative officers, faculty and staff, as well as award recipients and their families.

The Kelsey Merit Scholarship is given to entering and continuing       students who complete 18 credits during the school year. Recipients are       eligible to receive the scholarship for three consecutive years. This       need- and merit-based scholarship is awarded to North American minority       students with an entering grade point average of at least 3.3 and a returning       grade point average of 3.0. Recipients must have demonstrated leadership       potential, sensitivity to human need, and must participate in the life       of their community.

The Presidential Scholarship is given to entering, full-time       students only. Recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship for       three consecutive years. This need- and merit-based scholarship is awarded       to those with a grade point average of at least 3.5.

The William and Lucille Nickerson Merit Scholarship is a three-year full tuition scholarship offered to a full-time M. Div.  student, with preference given to "students preparing for Protestant ministry" and additionally to "candidates for ordination in the Congregational Church and/or the United Church of Christ."  Congratulations to this year’s Nickerson Merit Scholarship recipient,  Jason Boyd.

           

The Hearst Scholarship is given to full-time African-American or Hispanic-American D. Min.  student. Recipients must maintain a 3.3 GPA and show potential for leadership beyond the local congregation. Recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship for three consecutive years.

The Hancock Fellowship is given to a first-year M. Div. student who participates in field education at Hancock UCC in Lexington, MA., with preference given to UCC students thirty-five years old or younger who demonstrate leadership potential. The scholarship may be renewable.
