Site Description

The North Foster Baptist Church is a small rural church that has a rich tradition of being an active force in the town of Foster working closely with the department of human services. Incorporated in 1824 we are celebrating our 185th year this year. The sanctuary was built in the 1840's and the fellowship hall and Sunday School wing were built in the 1950's. Foster is a rural town with a population of 4500. The town was founded in 1781 and is mostly EuroAmerican. It’s georgraphic claim to fame is that we have the hightest elevation in the State of RI, Jeremoth Hill at 812 feet above sea level. There are still a number of working farms in town. There is no “down town” and as a result we are divided into sections. The Foster Clergy Association works hard to bring the populations of the three major Protestant churches together as well as work closely with the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches.Foster is located in the Northwest corner of Rhode Island on the Connecticut/Massachusetts border. We are 5 miles from exit 93 on Route 395, 15 minutes from Danielson, Connecticut, 25 minutes from Auburn, Massachusetts and 25 minutes from Providence, Rhode Island.

Student Involvement

A student will have the opportunity to work with the pastor and various committees on mission projects, children and youth and seniors. Our blended worship would be a wonderful opportunity to appreciate tradition while experimenting with technology. North Foster is active in the town clergy association which holds three ecumenical worship services throughout the year.We hope to be able to assist a student find their ministerial strengths while giving them a wide range of experiences including but not limited to visitation, youth group, preaching, bible study and denominational activities.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

The pastor of North Foster is a former teacher who is dedicated to creating a satisfying, enriching learning environment for a seminary student. Pastor Marie Carpenter has worked with student teachers in her former career as well as currently being an in-care pastor for the Standing Committee on Ordained Ministry for the American Baptist Churches of RI. She is currently the president of the Rhode Island Baptist Education Society which assists seminary students financially.

Special Considerations

Due to the location of North Foster, a car will be the only viable form of transportation. North Foster is committed to being a church dedicated to Christian Ministry.
