Site Description

FBCW is a small ABC congregation, mixed in age, numbering from 45-65 in worship. We have four children's SS classes and one for adults. Our youth group meets periodically. Our purpose is to maitain the worship of God and work to extend God's kingdom. In earlier days we were a neighborhood church, but now most members commute from other towns. Perhaps we can re-establish ourselves as a church for the neighborhood by making our current neighbors the focus of ministry and outreach. We have a Fellowship Hall that lends itself to a variety of activities, many of which have been attended by non-members. The congregation is a warm and caring group, friendly and accessible, but also possessing (guarding?) some very cherished traditions. One challenge before us is creating worship that appeals to and connects with a wide variety of people, both those already here, and those we hope to reach. To that end we are trying different music styles, first-person sermons, and a variety of other things to make worship more interactive and participatory.

Stipend Expectation

This site meets the stipend expectation

Student Involvement

The ANTS student here would do the following:1. Organize and lead weekly youth meetings. Due to their extensive institutional youth ministry, our current youth ministers can only meet here every 6 weeks. We want someone who can maintain a consistent meeting schedule for the kids, including spiritual formation activities and recreational events, and still be a "team player" when the other youth ministers hold an event. I would also expect the student to build solid relationships with the parents and involve them when possible in planning and conducting events.2. Teach a SS class for junior and senior high school students. Currently these students "drop out" of SS, although most continue to be in worship.3. Assist in worship leadership. Members of the congregation make announcements and read Scripture. The student will assist in other parts of the service: call to worship; prayer; etc.4. Participate with the pastor in various ministry activities and opportunites as interest and gifts suggest. (ie: communion calls; nursing home visits; clergy meetings; funerals; etc.)

Commitment to Educating Ministers

This is my first inquiry into student placement at our church. Having enjoyed the benefit of field education in seminary, I am committed to providing a worthwhile placement setting, and to giving supportive guidance and encouragement to any student serving here. It will bless us all to help educate a future minister of the Gospel. I can also say that our church council supports this request. They have attempted in the past to hire a student, but for various reasons, that have become somewhat vague over time, no one has ever served here. They recognize the limitations now facing our current leaders, the need our youth have for more consistent gatherings, and are committed enough to our youth to explore hiring a student from ANTS, even though funding for the position would have to be approved by a special congregational meeting.

Special Considerations

No special considerations have been mentioned. I expect that the student will need their own transportation however. No denominational preference has been mentioned either.
