Site Description

The First United Baptist Church (FUBC) has long been a cornerstone in the City of Lowell. In 1826, the same year that Lowell was chartered as a township, our current worship building was constructed. Located 25 miles from ANTS in the center of the city, the First United Baptist Church is a living congregation that opens its doors seven days a week to our community. With its affiliation with the American Baptist Churches, USA, the church has a large heart and welcomes those of other affiliations, or no affiliation.First United is a multicultural, multigenerational congregation with a growing membership of 300. Normal worship attendance is just over 100. First United Baptist Church considers Christian Education to be one of the most important programs of outreach for the church and as such it is open to members and friends, both children and adult. Our mission is to teach about the joy of God's love through Jesus Christ and our Christian responsibilities to the Lord, our families, ourselves and our neighbors. First United Baptist Church adheres to a safe church policy with children and youth.First United cooperates in quarterly joint worship services and weekly youth group meeting with two other ABC churches in Lowell.

Stipend Expectation

Student Involvement

Primary responsibilities of a field ed. student will be as student minister to the mutual multicultural youth group of the three Baptist churches. The combined youth ministry is entering its second year after a successful initial year. The attendance at youth group meeting has ranged at 25 to 30 youth. Several lay leaders have committed their time to the youth ministry. Additional opportunities for a student include small group teaching and weekly worship leadership with regular opportunities for preaching. In addition to meeting regularly with the Board of CE, the student would be invited to attend staff meeting with the ministerial staff.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

First United has had the opportunity and privilege to engage in ministry with several students for many years. FUBC has been a teaching site for ANTS since 1979. Although First United seeks a student for specific ministries, the primary goal is to enable a student to experience ministry in a non judgmental environment as education. FUBC is a nurturing congregation that is committed to reflecting with a student a mutual understanding of ministry in today's culture.

Special Considerations

In addition to Sunday, presently the youth group has been meeting one evening during the week. The evening of the week is negotiable to meet a student's schedule. Lowell can be reached from Boston by train if required.
