Site Description

Overlook Hospice services follows the Masonic tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. Hospice services provide comfort through physical, emotional and spiritual care to terminally ill patients and their loved ones. The Hospice team seeks to alleviate pain and suffering to support patients with dignity, honesty and respect so that they can remain at home in familiar surroundings and to assist their loved ones in preparing for death and in rebuilding their own lives.Hospice services are provided in the patients home as well as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and rest homes. We have an average daily census of about 30-35 patients and admit on average 150 patients annually. Our patients range in age from early 20's to our oldest of 104. We care for patients from all walks of life, various financial status, and a wonderful variety of belief systems.

Stipend Expectation

Student Involvement

Field education students will have the opportunity to provide spiritual care for hospice patients and their families. They will learn to perform spiritual assessments and develop care plans to assist them in journeying with those who are dying. Students will learn from "hands on care" the difference between religion and spirituality and be able to share that knowledge with those they serve. They will make regular visits to patients and their families and be part of the hospice interdisciplinary team as they work together to ensure holistic care of each patient.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

The Overlook Hospice Team has always been committed to education around end of life care and fully embraces the opportunity to develop strong leaders who value the importance of spiritual care for the dying. In December of 2008 new regulations came out requiring more involvement from spiritual care for hospice patients. Overlook Hospice has excelled in this area long before we were required to do so because we believe so strongly in the spiritual component of the dying process. Strong spiritual care ministers will support patients in fulfilling their life's journey and create healing for their loved ones.

We are not able to provide for a stipend at this time.
