"A Voice Calls: Neda!" Carole R. Fontaine

In this poem, composed during the mass protests in Tehran and other Iranian cities following the 2009 Iranian presidential election, Professor Fontaine reflects on the shooting death of music student Neda Agha Soltan, also known as "Neda of Iran" or just "Neda Iran."

"The world has eyes in the palm of its hand...," Fontaine writes. "We have all watched Neda die."

"Dare to Rest" Kirk Byron Jones

This is the transcript of Dr. Jones' Baccalaureate Address at the University of Pennsylvania, delivered on May 17, 2009, in Philadelphia, as published on the University of Pennsylvania Almanac website.

"Where there are no rests, there is no music...," Dr. Jones reminds his audience. "Graduates, I join the many who dare you to dream big and do even bigger. But, even more, in the moment that is this moment, I dare you to rest."

"Dismantling the Da Vinci Code" Mark S. Burrows

In this article, originally published in Christian Century, Professor Burrows disputes Dan Brown's claim that his enormously popular novel, The Da Vinci Code, is "a serious contribution to a revisionist history of early and medieval Christianity."

Although the novel, Burrows says, "trades on the spiritual hunger prevalent in our day," it nevertheless "relies on slipshod scholarship and mixes occasional fact with a large measure of fantasy."
